SHAKE ON THE BLOCK
This free seven-week workshop will help young writers discover the magic, fun and some would say craziness of the immortal bard through playwriting, adaptation and performance. Students will work on breaking down Shakespeare’s King Lear, which they will then adapt for performance by adding street slang and modern English. Students will be introduced to the rudiments of the theater process and develop skills in acting, memorization, adaptation, staging and performance while using their imagination to create cool, dynamic new characters based on Shakespeare’s King Lear. The workshop will culminate in a final performance at The Williamsburgh Library in Williamsburg that will be free and open to the public.

*Parents can fill out the info fields on the registration form but students should complete the Writing Background field, describing their background and interest in taking the workshop. We will admit students based on the merit of the Writing Background statement.
